False. Polycarbonate melts at around 300 degrees, and city lighting standards require either substances such as polycarbonate or tempered glass to withstand anything from vandals throwing rocks to hail to heat waves to electrical fires.
The lamp is located on 7th and Main in downtown Stillwater, Oklahoma, which hit an apocalyptic 114 degrees this week (thanks Sean Ball!). It melted from a dumpster fire.
