annielauren asked: I know your blog is centered around the environment, but I sincerely encourage you to cover a post on the Occupy Wall Street campaign, as protests have been in cities for two weeks and have been nearly entirely neglected by the media, and your blog addresses corporations linked to environmental issues often. Thank you.

Hi AnnieLauren!

I appreciate the push, but all major news outlets are covering Occupy Wall Street. There’s no substance for them to cover. So media doesn’t have much to go on, and defaults to sensationalizing arrests, mocking demonstrably know-nothing hippies, and sound bite loud mouthed celebs.

Personally, I haven’t a clue as to what they want to accomplish. From what I can glean, they’re “speaking out against corporate greed.”

Meh…

From my point of view, they need to write and call their representatives with very clear and very specific policy changes they want to make. Very specific and very clear. My guess is the vast (vast) majority has never even heard of the Federal Register, which is a serious problem on many fronts. Perhaps organizers should train advocates on how to change and influence policy rather than wasting all this energy on short-lived drum circles.

Look, writing works, modern day protest does not.
